Carsnip's ClickTracker tracks each click on your adverts on carsnip.com. Because this click takes place on our website, we have complete control over the ability to track this event.
Google Analytics on the other hand, is not able to track all users, so it will almost always under-report on Carsnip's logged clicks.
Some reasons for Google Analytics discrepancies include:
- The user is anonymous and cannot be tracked. If a visitor uses an incognito browser, although we are able to track the click, Google cannot identify the user and it will therefore not be available in Google Analytics.
- The user has JavaScript disabled (Google Analytics tracks any visitor that loads a JavaScript tag in the page code). If Javascript is not enabled, Google cannot track that visitor.
- There is no cookie stored against the user. This could be because the user's browser doesn’t accept 'Cookies', their firewall blocks cookies, or the user has deleted them manually. Google requires that a visitor accepts cookies to track behaviour however it's estimated from various tests that 30% of visitors over a month will delete their cookies.
- We discard any repeated clicks by the same user on the same car and have measures in place to detect click fraud and exclude search engines and crawlers.
