Demand for hybrids outstrips supply by 10 to 1 while auto demand surges
January's ‘Mind the Gap’ market report, which compares consumer demand based on advert clicks with the stock dealers are actually advertising, highlights the huge shift towards hybrids shows no sign of stopping – but dealers are struggling to supply the adverts consumers want. Last month 30% of all clicks went on just 3% of adverts as demand for hybrids rose 30% - up from 11% 2 months before. Demand is now outstripping supply by 10 to 1.
Demand for automatics is also surging with 6x as many buyers clicking on adverts with automatics gearboxes compared with manual. 84% of all clicks last month went on adverts for automatic cars – up 8% compared to December and up by 20% in 2 months. However, over the same period the percentage of dealer adverts that list automatic gearboxes have actually fallen by 3%.
